The color red | Manvel, Texas Photographer

We have so many pairs of red birds or cardinals in our yard.

The feeders are a great place to catch them in action because I can take pictures out the french doors and most of the time they never see me.We have quite a few different birds around here so I mix the seed using chicken scratch and sunflower seeds.

When making feeders for your yard try to place them in a location that you will be able to get some good pictures.

The males are solid red and have the crown on their head. The females are grayish with the red on the wings and they have no crown.

Sometimes the young babies will look fuzzy or a little bit rough but I try to catch-all those phases they go through. It is funny because the ones that are changing solid red will look multi-colored right before they fully change colors.

Often times you can catch them feeding each other the seed those shots are priceless.  If you are lucky you can catch one just as they are landing on the feeder.

  1. Pretty birds~ around my Vancouver Island home bird feeder the most boldly colourful bird we see right now
are the big Stellar Jays- deep blue body with a black hood and a call like a crow ( not exactly pleasant ) and a bit of a bully at the feeder.
