Where the Buffalo Roam

As we were driving around in the Texas hill country, we saw some American bison also known as the American buffalo.

My mind started thinking about that song we all had to learn in elementary school. Then I could not get that song out of my head.

Oh, give me a home where the buffalo roam where the deer and the antelope play; Where seldom is heard a discouraging word, and the sky is not cloudy all day.

My husband automatically did a U – turn because he knew I would want to take pictures. I walked up to the fence which was like eight feet tall, but the camera lens fit perfectly between the wires on the fence. I was so excited I have not seen any buffalo since I was a kid.

They seemed bigger than I remember and some of them had some good size wounds on their backs probably from fighting each other using their horns. Their winter coats were thick and shaggy looking liked they needed to be brushed out.

Always keep your eyes opened when traveling down the road you never know what you might see that will catch you by surprise.
