A day with nature | Sonya Lira Photography

My husband and I went out to Brazos Bend State Park in Needville Sunday morning.

We thought by getting there at 7:30 a.m. that would be early enough to beat some of the heat. It might have been, but we spent 3 hours walking around soaking up nature. By the time we were done, it was really hot.

When you’re out at Brazos Bend you can walk a lot of miles without even realizing it. It is one of those places you kind of get lost in nature because there is so much to see.

You have the wildlife, lakes, swamps, trails, towers, and just the beauty of it all. I love photographing all I can while we are out there.

We spotted this young buck as he crossed in front of us there was quite a few doe nearby. We saw about 20 deer in all but they were in a few different locations. The way he stood so proud in this clearing was the perfect chance to grab a few pictures. He was so beautiful I just wanted to stare at him.

The early morning reflections in the water made for a beautiful picture the water looked like glass since there was no wind at all.

The alligator being camouflaged by the swamp water was quite entertaining. I almost walked right past him. Good thing his eye was showing because that was what caught my attention. I was only about 10 feet away from him. I think most of the alligators were in the water yesterday because we did not see any basking in the sun.

The bench that was by the  lake was so peaceful and welcoming. It looked like the perfect place to sit and relax.

Then there was the juvenile yellow-crowned night heron posing on what appeared to be an old fence post that was sticking out of the water.

I took over 400 pictures so there will be plenty more to share soon. This should be my 400 blog post.

The Texas State Park pass is one of the best investments anyone can make that loves wildlife and the great outdoors.Texas has 54 state park and many that are close enough for a day trip. We plan on visiting a few of the ones we have not been to before when the weather gets a little bit cooler.

Yesterday was a beautiful day, getting to see all the wildlife and soaking up nature was wonderful. This was a great way to start a new week.

  1. Thank You Tom. Alligators and Crocodiles have that sort of prehistoric look about them. I am somewhat scared of the Alligators like if they are laying across the path we have to turn around and go another way.

    • I love the state parks we have some great ones here in Texas. I have a top notch picture of the buck I will post next week. Lots of birds all kinds. It really is a great place to go if you love taking pictures of stuff like that. Thank You.
