The loss of a pet | Manvel, Texas Photographer

Friday morning we lost our senior dog  Eye – Eye. She was 16 – years and 4 months.

I will miss her so much she has been such a big part of our family for so long. Over the last year, I had watched her age a lot. The last 6 months have been really tough on her I could see it in her eyes. I know she was hanging on for me and that was true even until the end.

Our pets become part of our families and it is never easy losing one of them. They love us unconditionally and grow with us as we grow older.

I had taken this picture for her 16 – year old pictures and I had even done a blog post about her. I am currently behind on ordering prints, but I will order one for my picture wall. Pet portraits are extremely important to have in your family photo album they too are members of your family.

We will miss you so much Eye – Eye rest in peace.

  1. I’m so sorry to hear about your dog. I’ve lost several to old age complications. I miss them all. It’s a wonderful photograph. I wish I had such beautiful photos of all of my dogs. Hang in there, sweetie. Lucy

  2. I’m so sorry. I just went through this as well. I still feel mine laying on my feet all night long. Wow! You are blessed, and so so lucky! to have had such a wonderful beasty stay for that long! Not a lot of folks get the chance to see their babes to the end like that. Beautiful photos.

    • Thank You. I am sorry for your loss as well. I still catch myself looking for her. Our boxer Daisy has been a bit lonely, but I am trying to keep her busy playing so she does not have time to get too depressed.

  3. It will be a very long time (maybe never) before I have another dog. The pain of the death of mine when I was 15 is still fresh in my heart. I feel for you, Sonya. I do hope that time is a healer for you and that her memories of her continue to make you smile.

    • Shannon we have had many dogs through our almost 37 years of marriage. Some did not live but 5-7 years others 8-12 yrs the oldest one Krissy Dog a mixed breed lived to be 18 yrs and then Eye – Eye a mixed breed lived 16 years old. It is never easy but something that is true is a mixed breed normally outlives a full blooded dog. Most of our full blooded dogs lived in the 8-12 year old range. I am not sure after this if I will get another we still have Daisy the boxer and even though shes lonely I am not sure I want to start over again and I love dogs.

  4. “It came to me that every time I lose a dog they take a piece of my heart with them. And every new dog who comes into my life gives me the gift of a piece of their heart. If I live long enough, all parts of my heart will be dog, and I will become as generous and loving as they are.” – Author Unknown (I’m so sorry for the loss of your precious friend. – Deb)
